
Rough Terrain Lift Truck – NPORS N009
Course Overview

The NPORS Rough Terrain Lift Truck (N009) course is designed to provide operators with the knowledge and practical skills needed to safely and efficiently operate rough terrain lift trucks across various site conditions. This training meets the requirements of the National Plant Operators Registration Scheme (NPORS) and is suitable for both novice and experienced operators.
Course Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

Understand the operator’s legal responsibilities under relevant health & safety legislation.

Carry out pre-use inspections and routine checks on the machine.

Safely mount, dismount, and operate the Rough Terrain Lift Truck.

Understand load charts, lift capacity, and stability principles.
-
Manoeuvre the machine safely on different terrains and confined areas.
-
Safely pick up, transport, stack, and de-stack loads.

Identify and avoid potential hazards on site.

Shut down and secure the machine correctly.
Assessment

Theory Test: Multiple-choice or verbal questioning to confirm knowledge.

Practical Test: Safe and competent operation of the Rough Terrain Lift Truck.

Course Duration
Course length depends on candidate experience:

Novice Operators: 3–5 days (typically 5 days)

Experienced Operators (Refresher/Conversion): 1–2 days

Experienced Worker Test (EWT): 1 day assessment only
Certification
Successful candidates will receive an NPORS Operator Card (Traditional or CSCS logo card, depending on requirements) valid for 5 years.
