Course Overview
​
The NPORS Excavator Micro (NO16) course is designed for individuals who operate or will be required to operate micro excavators up to 1 tonne. These compact machines are ideal for working in confined or restricted areas such as private gardens, tight building sites, and internal spaces.
This course ensures candidates develop the practical skills and theoretical knowledge to safely operate micro excavators in compliance with current health & safety legislation and industry standards.
On successful completion, candidates will be awarded an NPORS Operator Card, with the option for CSCS logo accreditation (if applicable).
Course Objectives

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

Understand the roles and responsibilities of an excavator operator.

Identify machine components and their functions.

Conduct effective pre-use checks and basic maintenance procedures.

Safely start, stop, and maneuver the machine in restricted and open areas.

Operate the excavator to perform basic excavation tasks such as trenching, grading, and backfilling.

Recognise and avoid site hazards, including working near underground services.

Understand safe loading, lifting (if applicable), and unloading procedures.

Safely shut down and secure the machine post-operation.
Assessment

Theory Assessment – Multiple choice or verbal questioning

Practical Assessment – Conducted using the NPORS practical test criteria

Novice Operators: 1 to 2 Days

Experienced Operators / Refresher / Test Only: 1 Day
Certification
-
NPORS Operator Card (with or without CSCS logo, based on eligibility)

Certification valid for 5 years
✅ To qualify for the CSCS NPORS Card, candidates must have passed the CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test within the last 2 years.
