Course Overview

The NPORS Rigging and Fleeting Loads – N047 course is designed for individuals involved in rigging and controlled movement (fleeting) of loads across various industries including construction, engineering, utilities, and marine.
This course provides operatives and rigging teams with the essential knowledge and practical skills to safely rig, move, and guide loads, whether suspended from lifting equipment or moved manually/mechanically across a site. It ensures full compliance with LOLER, PUWER, and Health and Safety at Work Act requirements.
Upon successful completion, candidates will receive an NPORS Operator Card and certificate.
Course Objectives

At the end of the course, candidates will be able to:

Understand the legal and safety responsibilities of rigging and fleeting tasks.

Identify and select suitable rigging and lifting equipment.

Calculate load weights and determine centre of gravity.

Use correct slinging techniques, including angles and load configurations.
-
Apply safe and effective fleeting (controlled horizontal movement) techniques.

Communicate effectively with team members during lifting and moving operations.

Conduct pre-use equipment inspections and report defects.

Follow method statements and lifting plans.

Work safely around lifting equipment such as hoists, cranes, or mechanical handling devices.
Assessment

Theory Assessment – Multiple choice or short written answers

Practical Assessment – Hands-on rigging, load movement, and fleeting tasks assessed by an NPORS-accredited instructor

Certification
Successful delegates will receive:

NPORS Operator Card & Certificate – N047 Rigging and Fleeting Loads

Valid for 5 years
