Mobile Crane N101

 

 

Course Overview

​

The NPORS Mobile Crane (N101) course is designed to train and assess operators on the safe and effective use of mobile cranes, including truck-mounted, all-terrain, and rough terrain cranes. This comprehensive course ensures that candidates gain both the practical skills and theoretical knowledge necessary to operate mobile cranes in compliance with current health and safety legislation.

The course covers essential topics such as crane controls, load handling, site safety, and legal requirements under LOLER, PUWER, and the Health and Safety at Work Act. Upon successful completion, candidates receive an NPORS Operator Card with a mobile crane endorsement.

 

Course Objectives

By the end of the course, candidates will be able to:

  • Understand the key principles of mobile crane operation.

  • Identify different types of mobile cranes and their applications.

  • Conduct thorough pre-use inspections and daily maintenance checks.

  • Safely manoeuvre and operate mobile cranes on a variety of site conditions.

  • Understand load charts and determine safe working loads.

  • Plan and execute lifting operations following safe systems of work.

  • Recognise hazards associated with mobile crane use and apply appropriate controls.

  • Understand and comply with relevant legislation, including LOLER and PUWER.

  • Communicate effectively with site personnel, including use of hand signals and radio communication.

 

Assessment

  • Theory Assessment – Written or verbal questioning

  • Practical Assessment – Hands-on operation assessed against NPORS criteria

Course Duration

 

  • Novice Operators: Typically 5 Days

  • Experienced Operators / Refresher / Test Only: 1 to 2 Days

 

 

 

Certification

​

  • NPORS Operator Card (Mobile Crane – N101) valid for 5 years

  • Option to add CSCS card endorsement upon meeting CITB Health, Safety & Environment test requirements
