
MEWP Boom N108
Course Overview
​
The NPORS Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP) Boom – N108 course is designed to provide candidates with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to safely operate boom-type MEWPs (also known as cherry pickers or boom lifts). This course covers safe operation, pre-use inspections, hazard identification, and emergency procedures, ensuring compliance with Health & Safety at Work Act, PUWER, and Working at Height Regulations.
On successful completion of the course, candidates will receive an NPORS Operator Card and Certificate for MEWP Boom (N108), demonstrating competence in safe MEWP operation.
Course Objectives

By the end of the course, candidates will be able to:

Understand key legislation and regulations relevant to MEWP use

Identify different types of boom-type MEWPs and their applications

Conduct pre-use inspections and daily maintenance checks

Recognise potential hazards associated with MEWP operation

Operate a MEWP boom safely, including correct positioning and control

Work safely at height using a fall arrest system (harness and lanyard)

Understand emergency lowering procedures

Demonstrate correct shutdown and securing procedures
Assessment

Theory Test – Multiple choice or verbal questioning

Practical Test – Hands-on assessment operating a MEWP Boom in realistic scenarios

Novice Operators: 1 Day

Experienced Operators / Refresher / Test Only: Half-Day or 1 Day

Certification
Successful candidates will receive:

NPORS Operator Card & Certificate – MEWP Boom (N108)

Certification valid for 5 years
✅ CSCS logo can be added to NPORS card if the candidate has passed a valid CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test within the last 2 years.
