
Compact Crane N140
Course Overview
​
The NPORS Compact Crane (N140) course is designed to provide operators with the essential knowledge and practical skills to safely operate compact cranes, including mini cranes, spider cranes, and other compact lifting units typically used in restricted or indoor environments.
These machines are widely used in sectors such as construction, utilities, glass installation, plant hire, and industrial maintenance. This course ensures operators are competent to perform lifting operations safely and in compliance with LOLER, PUWER, and the Health and Safety at Work Act.
Upon successful completion, candidates receive an NPORS Operator Card and Certificate for Compact Crane (N140).
Course Objectives

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

Understand the key legal requirements of compact crane operations (LOLER, PUWER)

Identify compact crane components, functions, and limitations

Carry out pre-use checks and identify defects

Read and apply load charts and lifting plans

Operate compact cranes safely in confined spaces

Select and use appropriate lifting accessories

Communicate effectively using signals or radios

Manage hazards including overturning, ground stability, and load swing

Follow site-specific safety protocols and emergency procedures
Assessment

Practical Assessment – Operating a compact crane in simulated lifting scenarios

Course Duration

Novice Operators: 3 to 5 Days

Experienced Operators / Refresher / Test Only: 1 to 2 Days
Certification
Successful candidates will receive:

NPORS Operator Card & Certificate – Compact Crane (N140)

Valid for 5 years
