Course Overview
​
The NPORS Excavator 180 (N201) course is designed to train candidates in the safe and competent operation of a 180° wheeled excavator, often used in civil engineering, utilities, construction, and road maintenance environments.
This course covers the machine's operation, from lifting and excavating to loading and manoeuvring, in compliance with industry legislation such as PUWER, LOLER, and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
Upon successful completion, delegates will receive an NPORS Operator Card and Certificate for Excavator 180 (N201).
Course Objectives

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

Understand the relevant legislation and operator responsibilities

Identify different components and functions of the 180° excavator

Conduct pre-use inspections and report defects

Understand the principles of excavation, loading, backfilling, and trenching

Operate the machine safely and efficiently on varied terrain

Work safely around other personnel and plant

Understand the stability of the machine and safe working loads

Park and shut down the machine securely
-
Understand the use of quick hitches and attachments

Demonstrate safe lifting procedures (if lifting operations are included)
Assessment

Theory Assessment: Multiple-choice or verbal

Practical Assessment: Machine operation under realistic site conditions

Course Duration

Novice Operators: 3 to 5 Days

Experienced Operators / Refresher / Test Only: 1 to 2 Days
Certification
Successful candidates will receive:

NPORS Operator Card & Certificate – Excavator 180 (N201)

Valid for 5 years
✅ CSCS Logo may be added if the candidate has passed a valid CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test within the past 2 years.
