Course Overview

​

The NPORS Road Roller (N214) course is designed to equip operators with the skills and knowledge needed to safely operate various types of road rollers, including single and tandem drum rollers. These machines are essential in construction, civil engineering, and groundworks for compacting soil, asphalt, and other materials.

This course ensures operators comply with health and safety legislation including PUWER and HASAWA, and that they understand safe operating practices for compaction machinery.

Upon successful completion, delegates will receive an NPORS Operator Card and Certificate for Road Roller (N214).

 

Course Objectives

​

By the end of the course, candidates will be able to:

  • Understand relevant legislation including PUWER and HASAWA

  • Identify different types of road rollers and their applications

  • Carry out pre-operation checks and report faults

  • Safely operate road rollers for effective compaction

  • Understand roller controls and maintenance requirements

  • Work safely on varied surfaces and gradients

  • Recognise hazards related to vibration and machine stability

  • Follow site safety rules and communicate effectively

  • Correctly park, shut down, and secure the machine

 

Assessment

​

  • Theory Test: Written or verbal questioning

  • Practical Test: Safe operation of a road roller in a range of scenarios

Course Duration

​

  • Novice Operators: 1 to 2 Days
  • Experienced Operators / Refresher / Test Only: 1 Day

 

 

 

Certification

​

Successful candidates will receive:

  • NPORS Operator Card & Certificate – Road Roller (N214)

  • Valid for 5 years

✅ CSCS card option available if the candidate has passed the CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test within the last 2 years.
