
Safe Working at Height N404
Course Overview
The NPORS N404 – Safe Working at Height course is designed to provide candidates with the essential knowledge and practical skills to work safely at height in accordance with the Work at Height Regulations 2005 and industry best practices. Whether using ladders, scaffolding, MEWPs, or other access systems, the course helps reduce the risks associated with height-related activities across a range of sectors.
This training is suitable for both novice and experienced operatives and can be tailored to your operational environment.
Course Objectives
By the end of the course, candidates will be able to:

Understand legal duties and responsibilities under the Work at Height Regulations.

Identify the hazards and risks associated with working at height.

Understand how to plan and organise work at height safely.
-
Select appropriate equipment for the task (ladders, towers, MEWPs, PPE, etc.).

Carry out pre-use checks and inspections.

Understand fall prevention vs. fall protection.
-
Demonstrate correct fitting and use of personal fall protection equipment (PFPE).

Recognise emergency procedures including rescue plans.

Reduce the likelihood of falls and injury through safe systems of work.
Assessment
Training and testing are carried out in line with NPORS standards. Assessment includes:

Theory Test (multiple-choice / verbal questioning).

Practical Test covering inspection, operation, load handling, and manoeuvring.

Course Duration

Novice / Inexperienced Operatives:
🕐 1 Day – Full training and assessment -
Experienced Operators / Refresher:
🕐 ½ Day – Assessment or condensed refresher training
Certification
Upon successful completion, delegates will receive the NPORS Operator Card for N404: Safe Working at Height.

NPORS/CSCS Card available if the delegate has passed the CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test within the last 2 years
