Course Overview
As an NPORS Approved Test Centre, we are pleased to offer the NPORS N405 – Crane / Lift Supervisor course. This course is designed to ensure that candidates gain the knowledge and skills required to safely supervise lifting operations in line with current UK legislation, including LOLER 1998, PUWER 1998, and BS 7121 standards.
Supervising lifting operations is a critical responsibility, and this course ensures supervisors are competent to plan, communicate, and oversee all aspects of the lift safely and effectively.
Course Objectives
By the end of the course, candidates will be able to:

Understand the legal responsibilities of a Lift Supervisor under LOLER, PUWER, and other relevant legislation

Explain the roles and responsibilities of all personnel involved in a lifting operation (Appointed Person, Lift Supervisor, Slinger/Signaller, Crane Operator, etc.)

Interpret lifting plans and ensure they are followed during operations

Effectively supervise lifting operations in line with the lift plan and safe systems of work

Carry out pre-lift checks and ensure safety compliance on site

Communicate effectively with the lifting team using appropriate methods

Identify and control hazards associated with lifting operations
Assessment
Assessment is carried out in accordance with NPORS standards and includes:

Theory Assessment

Multiple-choice written test covering legislation, responsibilities, and safe practices
-

Practical Group Assessment
-
Supervision of a lifting operation (real or simulated)
-
Application of lift plans, safety checks, and team communication
-
Candidates must successfully complete both components to receive their NPORS certification.

Certification
Successful candidates will receive:

NPORS Operator Card – N405 Crane / Lift Supervisor

Option of Traditional NPORS Card or NPORS/CSCS Card (with a valid CITB HSE Test)

Certificate Validity: 5 years
-
Renewal required before expiry
Nationwide at your work place
